- The
History of the name "Coeur
d'Alene".
- The
name "Coeur d'Alene" comes
from a French colloquial expression
"Heart of an Awl". French
fur trappers coming down from Canada
and trading with the local Indians
were reputed to utter this saying in
dismay when Indian traders
frequently drove such hard bargains
for their furs, that the French came
away in tears.
Many visitors staying at Katie's
Wild Rose Inn enjoy taking a
morning walk on the 1.75 mile rugged
nature walk from Sander's
Beach to downtown Coeur d'Alene.
